Surcoat

My Surcoat

This surcoat, called a cyclas, is cut short in front.  It is an unusual English fashion from the early to middle 14th Century.  Made of sturdy canvas, it displays my device, and has split tails in the back for riding horseback.

The funeral brass of Sir John d'Abernoun the Younger,

Sir John d'Abernoun

who died in 1327, shows the surcoat cut short for the "layered look."

I made the surcoat from Period Patterns #101, "Medieval Military Garments."
