Coif

My Coif

The padded coif worn under a helmet is similar to the cap usually worn by civilians in 14th Century Flanders.  The difference is that it is quilted and stuffed with padding.

This picture of coifs is taken from the Maciejowski Bible of 1250.

The stuffing in mine is actually closed-cell foam, cut from a blue camping mattress.  I don't mind using a little modern technology where it doesn't show.
