Pictorial Armor Glossary

Once you decide to go beyond a generic medieval look and make your outfit more authentic, you quickly run into a problem.  The people of the day had a very specialized vocabulary to describe their arms, armor, and clothing. To make things worse, different sources might call the same item by different names.

This Pictorial Armor Glossary should help.

"This glossary is based heavily on the glossary in Arms and Armor of the Medieval Knight by David Edge and John M Paddock, published by Crescent Books. This is an excellent book covering European weapons and armor from the eleventh century to the sixteenth century.

The pictures displayed in this glossary are from various places listed on my Armor Web Sites page. Larger pictures can be seen by clicking on the smaller pictures shown in the glossary."

In other words, most of the photos are of items that are actually for sale from different armories today!
